Hello, my name is Siobhan Hammett, and I am the Elementary/Middle School Counselor. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, and am certified as a Secondary English Education teacher. I obtained my Masters of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin - Stout in 1992, and have been employed in the Thorp School District since that time. I work with students during classroom Guidance lessons, and on an individual, or small group, basis.
I am also the District Assessment Coordinator, so I work with teachers to prepare for and administer all standardized testing. This includes the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam(WKCE),Access/ELL, Smarter Balanced Assessment, Pals, Star, Aspire, ACT, and the Dynamic Learning Maps. Many of these tests are new state requirements, and the staff has been busy preparing for testing.
New this year, the WKCE will only test Science and Social Studies, in grades 4,8, and 10th. This testing will be in November. The Dynamic Learning Maps is the alternative WKCE test, and will be given in April. Pals,1st -2nd grade is in September, Pals PreK-K, in October, and Star, (K-9) will be the first few weeks of school. The Aspire(9th) is the first week of October. Access/ELL is only for English Language Learners, and is done in the Spring. Every 11th grader in the state will take the ACT on March 3rd. And the Smarter Balanced tests, (3rd-8th), will be in April.
Please contact me if you have any questions about these tests, or if there is anything that I can do to help your child be successful in school.
