They learned to take temperatures and use stethoscopes to measure heart rate and breaths per minute. A big THANK YOU to Jim and Kim Mertens for hosting our Animal Science Day!

LIGHTS OUT LISTENING

Mrs. Morello and Mrs. Luzinski are having fun with Lights Out Listening. Lights out Listening are lessons where the focus is on lletter sounds and foundational reading skills such as rhyming, segmenting, and blending words. There is a fun twist...we use a black light, which makes the activities very engaging for the students!

Flashlight Friday

On Fridays, the second graders participate in Flashlight Friday. Students grab their book boxes, find a cozy spot to read and, when the lights get turned off, students have fun reading to themselves using a flashlight. Mrs. Lisieck and Mrs. Mohr walk around and have students read high frequency words to them.

HALLOWEEN

The annual Halloween Carnival is a celebration where all students K-5 play games designed by the teachers. The kids win various prizes that have been donated from Thorp families. The 6th graders assist parent volunteers in running the games for the kids.

NATIONAL STEM DAY

S ixth graders took on the marshmallow challenge to create the tallest structure that would hold the marshmallow. Not only the functions of the ingredients, but how to properly mix, knead, prep, etc. For the holidays, students used their creativity to build masterpieces using gingerbread, pretzels, candy, and frosting. Fashion Design and Construction students are designing fabric prints, designing and constructing quilts and hair accessories and learning about careers in the Fashion Industry.
