❄️Weather Delays and Closings❄️
Safety of our students and staff is our greatest concern in making decisions about closing school for any reason.
During times of severe weather, the School District of Thorp (SDT) will review regional weather data from the National Weather Service and will discuss conditions with the bus company in order to make the best possible decision. Please note that it is not always practical to call off school the day before, given how unpredictable Wisconsin weather can be. In cases where we will delay or cancel school, we will make every attempt to make the call by 6:00 a.m.
Severe weather may cause any one of the following:
•Delayed Start Time: School begins later than normal start time, generally two hours. This usually allows time needed for streets and highways to be cleared and/or temperatures to rise.
•School Closing: A school day is canceled due to bad weather/unsafe conditions for all or most of the day. All afterschool activities will be canceled, including athletics. The first inclement weather closing will not include required learning activities. Any subsequent closures after that will be virtual learning days.
•Elementary students will be expected to do their Snow Day packets
• MS/HS students will be expected to check Google Classroom for
assignments and communication from their teachers.
•Early Release: Students are released early due to conditions that would impact transportation from school to home.
If the decision is made to close schools, delay a start time, or release students early due to severe weather, we notify our families in a number of ways:
•District website announcements
•School District of Thorp app notifications
--Please be sure you have signed up for the school app and have notifications on.
-- Please be certain your parent/guardian contact information is correct
in the Skyward Family Access portal.
--Please do NOT update your student's email. It must be their school domain email .
•Social media platforms: Facebook
•Television Stations
•Radio Stations
Remember: Please be sure the parent/guardian phone numbers and email addresses in Skyward are up-to-date.
