"To define a school makerspace by its purpose and simplest of terms, it is a place where young people have an opportunity to explore their own interests; learn to use tools and materials, both physical and virtual; and develop creative projects." -Laura Flemming, Worlds of Making
What is Makerspace?
A Makerspace is a space where students can gather to create, tinker, explore, invent, and discover using a variety of tools and materials. Our Makerspace program promotes critical thinking skills and encourages students to problem solve through coding, circuitry, simple robotics, stop motion photography, free-build engineering, Maker challenges, and more. The goal is to work together to learn, collaborate, and share. Makerspaces allow us to explore, create new things, or improve things that already exist. There are no mistakes in Makerspace, only learning opportunities!
Some of the items we use in our Makerspace include: Botley the coding robot, Dot and Dash robots, Ozobot robots, Sphero Bolt and mini robots, KEVA planks, K'Nex, LEGO Boost robots, LEGO Mindstorm EV3 Robots, Lego Technics, Snap Circuits, Thinkfun games, marble runs, dominos, stop motion photography studio Stik Bots, and numerous craft/art supplies.
