The idea for the healing garden came during the renovation of the high school when a memorial tree planted by the Danielewicz family had to be removed for construction purposes and a gazebo that was built in memory of Sara Alger also had to be torn down due to disrepair. The new healing garden will serve as a replacement for both the tree and gazebo, as well as memorial to others that had close ties to the School District of Thorp.
The design for this beautiful garden came from Julie Beloungy, who currently serves as the Library Media Specialist for the School District of Thorp. Construction of the garden was done by the landscaping class of the Thorp High School under the direction of Agriculture instructor Glen Schraufnagel.
The garden will feature memorial benches and bricks that may be purchased by anyone wishing to have one placed in the garden as a memorial to someone who has had a connection to the school district or the community of Thorp.
The cost for benches are $850 each. Memorial bricks can be purchased in three different sizes: a 12 inch brick is $150, a 12inch x 6 inch brick is $115, and a 6 inch x 6 inch brick can be purchased for $105. If you would like to purchase a brick or memorial bench, you may do so by contacting Dan Abramczak at 715-669-5401 ext. 2360 or via email.
